Dear Families,
Due to the forecasted extreme wind chill temperatures of -40 degrees at 7 am, tomorrow, Friday January 23, 2026 will be an e-learning day for Eastland CUSD #308 students.
Students will not report to school in person. Instead, students should plan to participate in learning activities as communicated in our e-learning plan. K-3 students will have learning packets to complete, and 4-12 students will be learning via the Schoology platform. The entire e-learning facilitation guide, including learning instructions, schedule and expectations for attendance can be found on the homepage of our website or here https://bit.ly/elearning-eastland.
If you use the YMCA SACC program housed at Eastland Elementary, that will not be available. However, if you still need care you can contact Nichole nfranks@freeportymca.org as there may be spots available at the Freeport location. Extra-curricular events and practices will be communicated by their coaches and will not take place until the afternoon, once the weather reaches an appropriate temperature.
We will also be announcing our e-learning day with a phone call at 5 pm tonight.
Stay warm and stay safe.
Sincerely,
Dr. Alex Kashner
Superintendent
Eastland School District

We want to provide an early heads-up as we monitor the weather forecast for Friday, January 23rd.
At this time, projected wind chills at the start of school may reach -35 degrees. If conditions worsen as forecasted, there is a possibility that we may need to transition to an e-learning day to ensure student safety. No final decision has been made at this time, but we feel it is important to communicate early to ensure families are not caught off guard.
Our goal is to make any decision as early as possible, allowing families time to adjust plans if needed. On a regular basis, our teachers review e-learning plans with their students, and we ask that you do the same. K-3 students will be paper based, with 4-12 grade students utilizing learning through their school provided computers.
This message is shared for transparency, not to signal a final decision. We will continue to monitor conditions closely and communicate a final decision as more information becomes available.
Thank you for your understanding and partnership as we prioritize both student safety and continuity of learning.

What a wonderful group of students. They danced the night away at the Eastland 7th and 8th Grade dance this past Friday.
